PARTICIPANT'S COMMENTS

Dear organizers:

I wish to acknowledge your invitation and to wholeheartedly thank you for your timely effort.

Very respectfully, I wish to make the following brief remarks:

1 . Nivasha Peace Accord, as much as I realize its historical significance, can wait for now. Instead, I suggest the workshop be wholly dedicated to the quest for salvaging the situation in Darfur. The protection of human lives, prevention of foreign intervention and convening a Comprehensive National Conference (CNC) is the order of the day.

2 . The CNC should be the focus of efforts for a durable solution. Nivasha Peace Accord, the brewing crises in the Nuba Mountains and Dafur humanitarian catastrophy are undoubtedly going to take center stage.

3. I realize that your initiative is intended to be broadly based. Yet, the list of invitees does not reflect that. It might be very preliminary, however, it might be a good idea to seek wider representation of policy makers, professional/social entities. Whether you embark on the discussion of Nivasha Accord or on Dafur/Nuba crises, it might be a good idea to follow a prgmatic/problem solving approach. Since your workshop is an electronic function you might be able to invite by name as many individuals as you wish. However, you may need to secure participation of a selected group of 'wheelers'.  The divergence of views is a sure bet for the vibrance and sucess of your workshop. I therefore suggest that you consider wider representation of Turabi's People's Congress, the National Congress, Sudan Salvation Movement (Darfur), Nuba, Beja, Janjaweed, etc.

4 . The organizing committee is composed of people of high integrity and competence. However, its composition of people known for their past/present left-leaning might raise some doubts in the minds of other groups you wish to see as part of the national dialogue. It is sad but true that trust in patriotism and good-will have badly eroded.

5 . On a final note, without sounding fatuous, I wish to draw your attention to the covering letter to this attachment. It is ridden with too many typographical mistakes whish does not bode well to what comes next.

Please, accept my very best wishes for success. Once again thank you for tapping me to join your effort.
