INAUGURATION

Right away at the commencement of Arkamani's inauguration I feel I must express my unflinching conviction as well as my implicit unshaken belief that the close co-operation between us sudanese archaeologists and our collegues of the friendly foreign missions is indispensable for the Sudan. Our intimate relations and working hand in glove for the last more than forty years have yeilded marvels in the field of archaeological research. The results of the indefatigable efforts of the friendly foreign missions will go down into history literally as one of the great archaeological feats in the episode of scientific research in the Sudan whether we take them from the scientific point of view or we look at them in respect of the thrilling archaeological finds. Scientifically they have enormously increased our knowledge of Sudan culture history as well as radically revolutionizing our concept of the ancient sudanese civilization. As for the finds they have certainly added abundantly to our collections and this undoubtedly adorne our museums and the museums of the countries whose scientists are stretching their hands to help safe our cultural heritage.

The recent results of archaeological investigations carried in the Sudan by the international body of archaeologists working hand in hand with their sudanese colleagues are not only unavailable in Arabic but also these results are scattered in a mass of journals and periodicals published in various counries .. specially after "Kush" faced financial troubles and ceased to appear as an appropriate media for annual preliminary reports on the current field work in the country.

Above all it worth noting that these results are far from being incorporated within Arabic text books adopted in the schools and universities throughout the Arab world. Present Arabic text books reflect a perspective of Sudan culture history fully based on knowledge gained from archaeological investigations carried out before the Nubian archaeological campaign of the 1960’s.

Hence the Website ARKAMANI Sudan Journal of Archaeology and Anthroplogy as an arabic review of current archaeological and anthropological research in the Sudan is designed to fulfill a very defined objective: translation into Arabic the results of current field work carried by the international body of archaeologists in the Sudan as well as studies by scholars based on their archaeological investigations.
